Abstract

783,903. Electrically propelled vehicles. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AKT.-GES. March 11, 1955 [April 3, 1954], No. 7216/55. Classes 79(2), 79(3) and 79(5) In a driving arrangement for a pump in trolley buses, particularly a pressure oil pump for hydraulic steering aids in such buses, the pump is driven either from the transmission of the trolley bus or by an independent electric drive, the two drives being operatively interconnected by a freewheel clutch in such a manner that the pump drive from the transmission can be overriden by the independent electric drive. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the main electric driving motor 4 drives the rear wheels 1 of the trolley bus and is coupled through the freewheel 5 to an electric motor 6 which drives the gear type pump 7 for the hydraulic steering gear 3. A switch 8 in the circuit of the motor 6 is operable by centrifugal means 22 driven by the main motor 4. When the speed of the motor 4 is low the switch 8 is closed and the motor 6 drives the pump and when the speed of the motor 4 is high the motor 6 is de-energized and the pump is driven from the motor 4 through the freewheel 5. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the motor 6 is replaced by a dynamo 11. At high speeds of the motor 4 the dynamo is driven through the freewheel 5 and charges a battery but at low speeds of the motor 4 the battery drives the dynamo as a motor. Switching means are provided for breaking the battery circuit when the vehicle is at rest, the means being actuated together with a main switch 10 for the current supply to the vehicle, and the battery circuit is further interrupted when a door of the vehicle is opened, all as described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown).
