Abstract

A thin coating of a resinous copolymer of vinyl chloride and trifluorochloroethylene is provided on a tough thermoplastic body composed of a thermoplastic mixture of 60-90 per cent of a resinous copolymer of styrene and butadiene or acrylonitrile and 40-10 per cent of a rubbery copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile. The resinous copolymer of vinyl chloride and trifluorochloroethylene may be applied as a solution in a volatile organic solvent which may contain a pigment, e.g. titanium dioxide, cadmium or iron pigments, carbon black or chrome green. This solvent is composed of 85-96 per cent of a non-solvent for the base and 15-4 per cent of a solvent for the base, e.g. a mixture of toluol and methyl isobutyl ketone or methyl ethyl ketone. Two-tone effects may be achieved by applying a pigmented lacquer over a suitably embossed appropriately pigmented rubber-resin base and applying a clear protective lacquer over the entire surface, for example a brown lacquer coat may be squeegee-coated over a light tan basket weave embossed rubber-resin surface and clear lacquer sprayed over the entire surface. Specifications 632,722, 670,131, 670,393 and 695,169, [all in Group IV (a)], are referred to.ALSO:A coating composition consists of a resinous copolymer of vinyl chloride and trifluorochloroethylene in solution in a volatile organic solvent which may contain a pigment, e.g. titanium dioxide, cadmium or iron pigments, carbon black or chrome green. The solvent may be a mixture of toluol and methyl isobutyl ketone or methyl ethyl ketone. Specifications 632,722, 670,131, 670,393 and 695,169 are referred to.
