Abstract
783,250. Printing on curved surfaces. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. April 3, 1956 '[April 13, 1955], No. 10118/56. Class 100(2) A method of marking seal closures on glass bottles comprises passing the bottle into marking contact with type, and pressing against the glass of the bottle to force the seal against the type, thus shifting the seal slightly diametrically so that the seal is supported by the glass at the point of type contact, the seal being normally slightly spaced from the glass. Bottles 45, Figs. 1 and 3, are fed by a conveyer by means of a feed guide 43 on to an accumulator plate 21 attached to a sleeve 17 secured to a gear 15 driven by a pinion 16, and are discharged therefrom by a discharge guide 44, each bottle actuating a counting pin 41 contacting a microswitch counter 42 to count the bottles. Mounted on a rotating support 22 is a drive wheel 27 of an elastic material such as rubber which contacts the neck of each bottle betow the seal closure 46 so as to press the bottle outwards and during part of its travel press the closure 46 against an exchangeable type bar 38 secured by a retainer 39, Figs. 1 and 4, in a slot in a bottle guide 37 attached to a segment 35 fastened by screws 36 to a head plate 28. A pressure plate 33 secured beneath the plate 28 rests on the top of the bottle, against which it is pressed by a screw 34, and is of a flexible laminate thermosetting plastic such as "Micarta" (Registered Trade Mark). According to the height of the bottles, the plate 21 is vertically adjustable by means of a nut 25 on which rest pins 20 extending from the support 22, which pins are slidable vertically in slots in the sleeve 17.
