Abstract

783,224. Brick-laying apparatus. LUDER, F. K. Sept. 7, 1955 [Sept. 8, 1954], No. 25688/55. Class 20(4) A layer of mortar is applied to the top of a brick, prior to laying it in the wall, by means which ensure that the combined height of the brick and the mortar is constant. A layer of mortar is also applied, by the said means, to an end surface of the brick, so that the combined breadth of the brick and mortar is constant. As shown, bricks 6 are laid in pairs on a table 3 reciprocable beneath a mortar hopper 7 which is adjustable vertically, to determine the thickness of the mortar layer, by screws 14. The table 3 carries an obturating plate 11 which closes the bottom of the hopper when the table is pulled forward for the receiving of, or removal of, bricks. A flap 4, one for each brick 6, is pivoted to the table and extends downwardly to such an extent that it contacts, during the return motion of the table, with an adjustable stop 4c. When the bricks have been laid on the table, the latter is pushed inwardly to position the bricks beneath the hopper, the plate 11 being moved away from the hopper as the table advances. The mortar is thus applied to the top of the bricks, and some falls between the end faces of the bricks and the flaps 4. The table is then returned to its initial position, the edge of the hopper striking off the mortar to the predetermined thickness. The mortar between the flap 4 and the brick is pressed into a recess in the brick by the flap swinging clockwise as its lower part contacts with the stop 4c. Springs 12, carried by the hopper, produce grooves in the mortar applied to the top face. A tiltable handle 5 is then swung to tilt the bricks to facilitate removal by hand. The table may be stationary and the hopper reciprocated. The apparatus is mounted on a wheeled chassis 1.
