Abstract

783,031. Stuffing-box substitutes. STEYRDAIMLER-PUCH AKT.-GES. Oct. 4, 1955 [Oct. 14, 1954], No. 28256/55. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXXIV] A ball or roller bearing 6 has a dust or grease seal comprising a rubber ring 9 having a rounded outer rim 10, located in a groove 5 in the outer race 4, and a soft inner lip 11 which engages the inner race 1 with slight deformation, the ring being stiffened by a flanged metal ring 8 vulcanized thereto. The inner race 1 is formed with a fillet or bevelled portion 2 which is engaged by the lip 11. The metal ring may be formed with apertures 12, Fig. 5, which are filled by the material of the ring 9 and whose positions are indicated by bosses 13 on the outside of the ring 9. Additionally, the ring 9 may have an inner flange 8b.
