Abstract
Porous sintered metal powder bodies other than flat sheets are made by mixing metal powder with a solution containing thermo setting synthetic resins and continuing the mixing while the solvent is evaporated so that resin coated particles are formed. These particles are shaped in a mould at 400-500 p.s.i.,cured whilst still in the mould, and thereafter heat-treated to decompose the resin and sinter the body. Stainless steel nickel and nickel alloys are specified. The process is similar to that disclosed in Specification 781,432 and an impervious layer may be produced as disclosed in that specification and the infiltration process carried out. Filter cups and bearings may be produced and may incorporate reinforcing members also as disclosed in the specification referred to above.
