Abstract

781,315. Fibrous compositions. ELMENDORF, A. Dec. 20, 1954, No. 36844/54. Class 70. [Also in Group X] A non porous wallboard comprises a non- porous matrix of gypsum, Portland, magnesite, or other inorganic cement having wood strands embedded therein, the fibres of each strand being generally parallel to its length, the weight of the matrix exceeding the weight of the strands and the length of the bulk of the strands being between one-half inch and 6 inches, their width being very much less than their length. The wood strands 4 are preferably substantially straight and of about 0À01 inch thickness. In the surface layers a, b of the board the volume of cement exceeds the volume of the strands, whilst in the zone c between the zones a, b, the volume of the strands exceeds the volume of the cement. Preferably at least one face of the board is surfaced with a thin layer of cement completely free from fibres.
