Abstract
780,380. Piles. BERTHET, F., and DESVAUX, J. Nov. 18, 1955 [Nov. 20, 1954], No. 33126/55. Class 68(2) A device for driving and facilitating the extraction of piles, tubes and the like comprising a unit mounted directly on the pile and adapted to impress on the pile alternating impulses in the direction of the axis and/or at right angles to the axis of the pile, the impulses being variable in intensity, has the impulse-generator unit mounted on a support rigidly fixed to the pile with a play between the unit and the support in the direction of the axis and/or at right angles to the axis of the pile, the play transforming the impulses into directional shocks. The impulse generator unit shown is as described in Specification 687,603 and comprises a frame 11 on which are mounted fly-wheels 12 with oppositely acting, out of balance weights. The unit 11, 12 is coupled to a pile 10 by a fixing band 13 secured to the pile as by mechanical or hydraulic clamping collars, the band 13 having external ribs 14 housed inside grooves 15 in the frame 11 with play 16. The band 13 is longer than the height of the frame 11 and has end abutments 17, 18 providing play 19 in the longitudinal direction. For inclined or horizontal piles the action of gravity is replaced as necessary by the action of elastic jacks or the like. Specification 779,227, also is referred to.
