Abstract
778,709. Eddy-current brakes. COMPAGNIE TELMA. Oct. 13, 1954 [Oct. 16, 1953], No. 32445/55. Divided out of 778,707. Class 35. An eddy-current brake has a centrally fixed field member located between two rigidly connected rotating magnetic discs D, E which are mounted on a shaft F arranged to have a centrally located thrust bearing 25 within the stator. The field member has a toroidal coil A embraced by a set of inner poles B imbricating with another set of outer poles C. The mounting arrangement of the discs D, E is such that any variation in the shaft length due to temperature variation will affect the width of the air gaps e, e<SP>1</SP> equally. The discs D, E are mounted on fans 21 which cause cooling air to circulate as indicated by the arrows.
