Abstract

778,601. Collapsible boxes. PLATTNER, E. Feb. 22, 1956 [Feb. 22, 1955], No. 5458/56. Class 18. [Also in Group XXV] A collapsible box has its sides 2, 3 and ends 4, 5 hinged to the base, the hinges being formed by interengaging curled rims in the walls and bottom flanges. The side hinges are level and those of the ends of less height. The walls have curled over upper rims, those of the sides being engaged by rails 28 on a sliding lid 6. The lid is secured by folding down a hinged flap 24 and moving a bolt 25 to engage loops 26. The sides and ends are joined by fastenings 18, 19. When the box is collapsed, the lid slides over the side wall hinges 10, 11 and the flap 24 is folded down and secured by the bolt 25 and loops 27. Depressions 32 in the lid and corresponding projections 33 on the base enable the boxes to be stacked either when erected or collapsed. A spring 29 rises behind the closed bolt to lock it in position.
