Abstract

777,558. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 7, 1955 [Dec. 20, 1954], No. 35088/55. Class 112. In a blind-stitching machine the means for biasing the work-support to operative position are augmented by fluid pressureoperated means, the arrangement being such that the fluid pressure is directly proportional to the speed of operation of the machine. The work-support 18 is pivoted at 20 to the machine base and at 32 to a link 28, the latter being pivoted at 27 to a slidable rod 24 which is acted upon by a compression spring 23, whereby the work-support is biased upwardly against the action of the work-feeding and work-bending means. A link 37 connects the worksupport to a crank 36 carried by a shaft 34 which is operable manually for lowering the work-support. Rod 24 is connected to the piston 58 of a fluid-pressure motor 49 supplied with fluid under pressure by means similar to those described in Specification 740,939.
