A collapsible spring or mattress for a bedsettee of the kind made in four sections, inner and outer sections B, E and inner and outer intermediate sections C, D, all the sections being pivotally connected together and arranged so that in the folded position (Fig. 5) the outer section E is located above and spaced apart from the inner intermediate section C, is characterised in that the outer and outer intermediate sections E, D are connected on each side by an articulated linkage 26, 27, the common pivotal connections 31 of the linkages having outward projections which are respectively engaged when the sections are in the folded position by the ends of two links 23, the opposite ends of which are pivoted at 24, to opposite sides of the inner section B, the arrangement being such that the links 23 oppose and prevent movement between the folded sections. As shown in Fig. 1 each inner intermediate section C of the mattress is mounted at 20 on the end of a swinging arm 21 pivoted at its lower end 25 to the framework F of the bed settee and connected at a point intermediate of its length to the section C by a spring 28. The link is pivoted at 22 to a link 19 pivoted at 20 to the inner intermediate section C. The other end of link 19 is pivoted to a link 16 connected to a leg 15 depending from the outer intermediate section D. The end 29 of link 23 is concave and when the mattress is extended this engages over the pivot 20 and holds the inner intermediate section C steady relative to the inner section B. A leg 11 is pivoted to the outer section E at 12 and is connected to the outer intermediate section by a link 14.
