[Also in Groups VIII and XXV] A web, tape or sheet of pliable material, has its opposite marginal portions folded inwardly and secured in place by previously applied adhesive, both inturned portions terminating short of the other line of fold and serving to overlap and position a longitudinally disposed and relatively stiff reinforcing thread adapted to take a permanent set when distorted. In one web construction, Fig. 2, a wire 12 is incorporated under each folded marginal portion. In a further web construction, Fig. 3, the folded marginal portions each overlie opposite parts of a single reinforcing thread 15 of zig-zag form. The web, tape or sheet 10 may be of paper or transparent plastic having a surface layer 11 which may consist of lacquer, fabric or silk fibres. The webs or tapes are intended for use instead of string in securing parcels, the ends being simply twisted together instead of being tied. The sheets should be of such size that the marginal edges overlap when wrapped around the goods, the ends of the resultant tube that initially project beyond such goods being twisted up to produce a fully-sealed package.
