Abstract

776,930. Typewriters. ROYAL McBEE CORPORATION. June 15, 1954 [Aug. 11, 1953], No. 17577/54. Addition to 749,411. Class 100(4) A line spacing mechanism can be operated for repeated line spacing by the movement of a cam follower into engagement with a constantly rotating cam. A ratchet wheeel 9 of a usual line spacing mechanism C is actuated by the nose 25 of an actuator pawl 21 pivoted at 28 to an arm 39 of a bail 30 mounted on a rod 31. A cam 39 constantly rotated by a motor 43 is normally out of line with the roller 37a of a follower 37 but on depression a key lever 58 acts through linkage to rock a lever 70 which through a spring 73 overcomes a restoring spring 54 to move the cam follower along a shaft 53 so that the follower roll 37a is moved into the path of the cam 39 as soon as a low region between the lobes 57 is reached. Each lobe 57 acts to depress the follower arm 51 and a link 33, a nose 35 of which engages a bail ledge 32, whatever the position of the carriage, to rock the bail 30 to effect a line spacing. A spring 38 restores the link 33 between each lobe and repeated line spacing occurs as long as the key lever 58 is held down and the cam follower is in the path of the cam.
