Abstract
776,336. High vacuum pumps. MACHLETT LABORATORIES, Inc. Oct. 14, 1955 [Oct. 26, 1954], No. 29352/55. Class 71 A conventional high vacuum pump 11 of the oil diffusion type, a cold trap 30 and a rigid tube 20 connected to the exhaust tubulation 21 of an envelope 10 to be evacuated mounted on a shelf 16 of a. frame 12 are resiliently mounted as a unit below said envelope 10, so as to be capable of linear movement relatively thereto, there by taking up expansion of the tubulation 21 and allowing sealing thereof without displacement of the envelope. To this end the pump 11 and cold trap 30 are carried by brackets 33, 34 secured to a sleeve 24 telescoping on a vertical shaft 25 secured to the floor 14 and a shelf 15 of the frame 12; the sleeve 24 having arms 42 provided with spools 40 Fig. 3 (not shown) round which are wound spring strips 26 by which the unit is suspended from the shelf 15. The sleeve 24 may also carry a vacuum gauge and a Dewar flask supporting ring beneath the cold trap 30.
