A parachute releasing or disreefing device comprises a member 6 restraining the parachute from opening or fully opening, and adapted to be broken by the direct disruptive effect of a chemical explosive means 8. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the reefing cord 6 passes through a cylinder containing explosive which may be fired electrically.
