Abstract

775,540. Magnetic fastenings. LABORATORY EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. Dec. 9, 1955 [Dec. 14, 1954], No. 35383/55. Class 44. Also in Groups XXIII and XXXV] A holding device comprises a thin wafer of ceramic magnetic material magnetized across its thickness, arranged to be placed between, or withdrawn from, a pair of magnetically soft members. In the holding device shown in Fig. 1, the ceramic wafer 28 floats between soft pole-pieces 20, 21 which secure a keeper 12 which may be released by raising the wafer by means of rod 36. In the form shown in Fig. 6, which may be a work-holder or a door fastener, the wafer 58 slides in a channel between manetically soft pole-pieces 50 which attract a workpiece 40.
