775,218. Washing machines. GEUER, H. Feb. 25, 1955 [March 1, 1954], No. 5638/55. Class 138 (2). In a washing machine having an inner laundry-receiving drum which rotates about a horizontal axis within an outer drum 20, the peripheral wall of the inner drum is formed of two layers of metal lattice-work, in which the size of the interspaces between the lattice bridges is a multiple of the width of the lattice bridges, and one of the layers is in the form of a widemeshed, stiff lattice-work body 14 whilst the other layer is in the form of a fine-meshed sieve-like wire screen 15. In the example shown, steel rods 12, 121, 12<SP>11</SP> extend between end plates 6, 9 and are encircled by steel rings 13, 131, 1311 welded to the rods at their points of contact. Alternatively the wide-meshed part may be of expanded metal. A removable window 11 and a removable or tiltable window 22 are provided in the inner and outer drums respectively. A central axially-extending partition is provided in the inner cylinder.
