Abstract
774,551. Reciprocating electric generators. COLLINS, C. A. HENN-. Oct. 26, 1955 [Sept. 22, 1954], No. 27378/54. Class 35. [Also in Group XXIX] A water-driven electric generator suitable for country districts for electrifying fences, battery charging, &c., comprises a chamber 10 into which water flows at 11 and having a valve 12 which alternately opens and closes an outlet port 13, and a diaphragm 14 in the wall of the chamber which reciprocates under the action of the changing water pressure in the chamber and is coupled by a rod 15 to the moving magnets 16-18 of an electromagnetic generator. Alternative forms in which the diaphragm is coupled to a valve controlling the water flow, and showing alternative magnetic circuits with fixed magnets and paths switched by the diaphragm are described and illustrated, and the diaphragm may be replaced by a reciprocable piston. The generator may comprise a primary winding with contact-breakers also operated by the diaphragm to produce high-voltage pulses in a secondary winding for electrifying fences &c. It is also stated that a number of generators with their chambers connected by water columns of suitable length to provide hydraulic resonances may have their electric generators connected to provide polyphase currents. The Provisional Specification refers to voltage regulation of the generator output.
