Abstract

774,352. Treating coated paper. WARREN CO., S. D. July 26, 1955, No. 21578/55. Class 96. Supercalendered, coated paper is given high gloss and/or uniformity by passing it first to a pre-wetting roll 4 above a press roll 3, e.g. of rubber, and wetted e.g. with water containing a little ammonia, formaldehyde, and monoethanolammonium stearate, supplied at 5; the paper then passing through a main pool of such liquid supplied at 6 to the nip between the press roll 3 and a highly polished chromium plated roll on which it is heated and dried, after which it passes about rolls 8 and is wound up at 9. If the paper is taken off before it is completely dried, the surface is level, but the gloss is less. The paper may be clay coated on both sides and may be fungicidal.
