Abstract

772,625. Harvesting root-crops. LORIMER, J. W. Dec. 12, 1955 [Sept. 10, 1954], No. 26250/54. Class 6(3). A root-crop harvester includes a drum 1 rotatable on a chassis drawn by a tractor, the drum having internal radial plungers 6 terminating in tines 7 which are caused alternately to project and retract through orifices in the drum at fixed positions during its rotation. The drum is chain-driven from the tractor and rotates on a fixed axle 2 which carries a cam 9. Each plunger is integral with a cam-follower 8 whereby it is retracted, against the action of a spring housed in a tubular casing 10, at a point close to the topmost position. The released roots are carried away by a conveyer belt (not shown).
