Abstract
A solution or aqueous emulsion of afterchlorinated polyvinyl chloride containing one or more metal oxides such as antimony trioxide, tin oxide and titanium dioxide is used for fireproofing and in some cases waterproofing textile material. The pH value of the emulsion may be adjusted to at least 7 by the addition of ammonia or triethanolamine. There may also be added substances giving a waterrepelling effect such as fatty acids, soaps, wax, paraffin emulsions, aluminium formate or acetate, colour pigments, bactericides and chlorophenol as a preservative. In an example, an emulsion is prepared comprising after chlorinated polyvinyl chloride dissolved in acetone and trichloroethylene, antimony trioxide, oleic acid, ammonia or triethanolamine, and an aqueous solution of carob bean flour. A cotton twill is impregnated by passing through the emulsion squeezed in a padding machine and dried at 90 DEG to 100 DEG C., treated with aluminium formate and dried again.
