Abstract

An aluminium salt of ascorbic acid is obtained by reacting ascorbic acid with an aluminium alcoholate. The reaction may be effected in an anhydrous alcohol or mixture of alcohols at normal temperature. In examples, aluminium isopropylate in anhydrous isopropanol is reacted with ascorbic acid in methanol to produce aluminium ascorbate in which the molecular ratios Al2O3:C6H8O6 is 1 : 6, and said aluminium ascorbate is reacted with aluminium isopropylate to produce aluminium ascorbate in which the molecular ratio Al2O3:C6H8O6 is 1 : 3.
