Pressure on the linear bearings 15 of the linearly moving armature 8 of a reciprocating electric motor is relieved by attaching the top channel 20 to resilient clamping strips 22 which have a tendency to bow outwardly. The bearing channels 9, 10, 20, 21 may be lined with steel wires as shown or grooved strips.
