A gasket or sleeve 3 interposed between the complementary tapered portions of two glass components 2, 5, one which is a bottle stopper, or a glass and a metal component, is made from a thermoplastic material such as polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, and is 0À002 to 0À003 inch in thickness. The gasket may be adhesively fixed to one of the components.
