Abstract
770,580. Cooling thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 18, 1955 [March 24, 1954], No. 7947/55. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XIII] In an evaporative cooler for thermionic valves the fluid is sprayed on to the anode 3 so that it runs down in a thin film; easy escape of vapour bubbes is thus facilitated and the formation of hot-spots avoided. As shown the anode is mounted in a jacket 5 and is surrounded by a number of annular headers 8 ... 11 provided with nozzles for spraying fluid on to the anode. Unvaporized fluid collects in sump 15 from which it is periodically pumped tc reservoir 18. Vapour passes out through pipe 16 to reservoir 18 where it is condensed and fed by gravity through pipe 20 to the headers again. A single helical pipe may replace the separate annular headers. The vapour outlet may be at the top of the jacket.
