Abstract

769,657. Automatic circuit breakers. ALLARD, G. May 23, 1955 [May 31, 1954], No. 14824/55. Class 38(5) In a circuit breaker which may be tripped automatically or by hand, an operating member 8 attached to a push button 7 is formed with a knife-edge 12 about which a contact carrying lever 5 may pivot and also with a blade 10 having a lug 16 whicn engages an independent L-shaped latching member 11. The blade 10 and a further blade 9 pass through apertures in the lever which is formed from blades 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>11</SP>, 5<SP>111</SP> ' and which carries at one end main and arcing contacts 4,and 4<SP>1</SP> to co-operate with a fixed contact 3. The other end of the lever rests on a stop member 20 which is pivoted at 22 and biased to the left, Fig. 1, by a spring 23. A spring 6 disposed around the blade 9 biases the lever to the "contacts open position. Depression of the button tilts the lever about the top of the stop member 20 until the contacts close and the latch engages (as shown in Fig. 1). The switch may be tripped either by depression of the button 30 of by expansion of a bimetal 33 when the stop 20 is moved to the right, Fig. 1, and the lever pivots about the knife edge 12 so that its right hand portion engages the top of the latch 11. tilting it to release the lug 16. The lever 5 carries a lug 38 (see Fig. 5) engaging a plate 42 which carries a contact 41 which bridges contacts 40, 40<SP>1</SP> of an auxiliary circuit when the main switch is closed.
