Abstract
A reactor, for use in fluidized catalytic processes, comprises essentially a vertical reaction tube 6, for containing the solid particles 8, and a slender stationary helical baffle 17 disposed substantially co-axially of said tube in anular shaped relation thereto. The ratio of the diameters of the <PICT:0768836/III/1> tube and the baffle are preferably between 4 to 1 and 3 to 1. The number of windings per unit length of baffle and the ratio between tube and baffle diameters are varied according to the reaction. The wire or flat strip coil may be provided with a central pencil-like support the individual turns being attached by radial arms or alternatively the baffle may be constructed in the form of a long slender drill.
