Abstract

768,590. Extrusion. EUILLADES, N. C. March 7, 1955, No. 6687/55. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XIII] Making refrigerators, condensers and evaporators. A tubular sectional member, particularly for use in the construction of parts of refrigerators, comprises a tubular conduit portion 1 having two outwardly projecting co-planar fin portions 2, 3 integral therewith and produced by extruding an aluminium-base light alloy. The fins may form a base 4 for the tubular member or they may lie on a common diametral plane, Fig. 5 (not shown). The bore of the tube may be of circular, oval or elliptical cross section. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the ends of the fins 2 and 3 have oppositelydirected rebates 5, 6 respectively. In the construction of an evaporator unit for a refrigerator, Fig. 8, a length of the tubular member is folded and is attached to a U-shape sheet, Fig. 7 (not shown), by cold spot welds 4. In another construction of evaporator, Fig. 10 (not shown), the tubular member is wound to form a helical coil and the opposite sides of the coil are joined together by a partition 8, Fig. 9 (not shown), which serves for mounting a tray for producing ice cubes. A condenser unit, Figs. 16, 17 (not shown), may be constructed in a similar manner except that the partition is omitted. In another embodiment, Fig. 12, a length of tubular member 1 is folded to form a flat tubular structure, the edges of fins 2, 3 being rebated as shown in Fig. 3, whereby these rebates overlap each other to form a flat backing. Thereafter, the flat structure is bent into U-shape, Fig. 14 (not shown), and the opposite legs of the U-shape are joined by a member which forms a support for an ice tray.
