Abstract
768,432. Hypodermic injection appliances. SCHERER CORPORATION, R. P. April 21, 1955 [July 12, 1954], No. 11524/55. Class 81(2) In a needleless hypodermic injector the initial part of the expulsion of medicament is performed under increased pressure by a force-multiplying means and, in the forms described, the said means comprises either cams or levers. Power for operation of the appliance is obtained by winding a disc 66 up a screw 61 against power springs 64 and then releasing both disc and spring as a unit by withdrawing a latch 83. As a central pin 52 is driven down, cam surfaces 54 force triangular blocks 47 outwards and these, by riding on inclined surfaces 49, are forced downwards, thrusting the plunger 40 down with increased force until the foot 66 of the driving assembly engages the plate 43, whereupon the thrust of the springs 64 acts directly on the plunger through this plate and the blocks 47. In a modified form, see Fig. 4 (not shown), the triangular blocks are replaced by spherical balls. A third form is also described, Fig. 5, in which the central screw bears on the inner ends of segmental, arcuate levers 104, the outer ends 110 of which bear against fixed pillars 90a as fulcrums. By this means the plunger head 102 is driven down with an initially increased force which gradually diminishes as the levers roll on the surface 101 until finally the thrust plate 66 bears on the levers and the assembly moves as a unit.
