768,353. Automatic fire alarms. GENT & CO., Ltd. Oct. 11, 1954 [Oct. 23, 1953], No. 29404/53. Class 118 (1). [Also in Group XXXVII] In a thermostatically -operated device suitable for use as a fire alarm, a bimetallic element 6 attached at 7 to a visual indicating member 2 which is pivoted on a pin 3 carries a peg 9 which, on the bending of the element 6, engages a trigger 10 thereby releasing a hook 12 from an adjustable catch plate 13 whereupon the member 2 drops under the action of gravity pivoting about 3 to its other position from which it must be positively reset. In the embodiment shown, the member 2 carries a mercury switch which is operated on the tilting of the member 2 to complete an electrical warning circuit. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the block 7 carries a lug which engages a finger to release the spring of a spring-actuated bell, thus providing a mechanical warning system.
