Abstract

A composition for external application to animals consists of an ointment base containing from 0.1 to 5.0 per cent (weight/volume in c.g.s. units) of 2, 21 thiobis (4:6 dichlorophenol). Additional bactericidal and pain-relieving agents may also be present, e.g. sulphanilamide, quarternary ammonium salts such as b -p-tertiary octyl phenoxy-ethyl diethyl benzyl ammonium chloride. The ointment base may contain Cera Emulsificans, cetaceum, lanolin, beeswax, glycerine, paraffin wax, white hydrocarbon, glyceryl monostearate, sorbitan sesquioleate, salicyclic acid, methyl salicylates, dimethyl phthalate, polyoxyethylene condensate, ethyl p-hydroxybenzoate and sodium phosphate.
