Abstract

764,893. Electric indicating systems. BUISSON, P. Aug. 23, 1954 [Aug. 25, 1953], No. 24507/54. Class 40 (1). [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL (b)] Apparatus for checking that a number of quantities are within prescribed limits comprise means for converting each quantity to a corresponding electric variable and which controls the position of the moving element of a measuring instrument and means for operating a control when any of the moving elements intercepts a light beam passing to a photo-electric cell. As shown, the invention is applied to determining simultaneously that the separate diameters of a shaft mounted in V-blocks 16 is within prescribed limits. The appropriate diameters are gauged by known devices 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, 102 which are each carried on leaf springs so as to bring an anvil 11 into contact with one end of the diameters, members 13 contacting the other. These devices produce an electrical output dependent on the diameter being gauged, part of the tapped output being tapped from a potentiometer 17 and used to position the pointer of meter G. The meter faces are aligned as shown and each has two apertures 41, 4 through which beams of light 5, 5<SP>1</SP> respectively pass to photo-cells 6, 6<SP>1</SP>. The response of each meter to the gauge output is so adjusted by means of the associated potentiometer that the total instrument travel over the prescribed limits is the same. If any valve is outside these limits the pointer cuts off light passing through one of the apertures causing one of cells 6, 61 to operate a warning device. The invention may be applied to checking simultaneously the level temperature and pL value of liquid in a tank. Specification 768,723 is referred to.
