Class 99(1) A connection for attaching a pipe to the curved side wall of a tank comprises an internally threaded sleeve 23 the end of which is brazed or welded at 26 to the end of a cylindrical boss 21 formed in the tank wall 14, the brazing or weld 26 forming the sole point of attachment between the sleeve 23 and the tank wall. The connection is shown as forming the cold water inlet 32 of a hot water aluminium tank 14 surrounded by a jacket 16 and a spaced casing 17 the space between which is filled with insulating material. The inlet fitting 32 comprises a pipe 33 threaded into the sleeve 23 and passing through openings in the jacket 16 and casing 17, annular springs 35 being provided between a flange 36 and the casing 16 and a rubber sealing ring 37 being provided around the opening in the casing 17. A coupling member 39, screwed into the end of the pipe 33, is spaced from a second coupling member 41 by a rubber washer 42 and an internally threaded collar 43 of hard dielectric material such as nylon is screwed on the end of the member 39 and surrounded by a sheet metal clamp ring 44 having a flange 45 rotatable in a groove 46 in the member 41. The tank wall 14 is preferably of aluminium alloy sheet clad on its inner surface with a thin layer of pure or substantially pure aluminium. U.S.A.
