Abstract

<PICT:0763599/III/1> In an installation for the preparation of emulsion for application to jute, bast, or leaf fibres comprising pumps q. r. s. for delivering constituents of the emulsion simultaneously, separately, and in predetermined proportions to a homogenizer v and storage tank w, a pump u is provided, the rate of discharge from which is greater than the combined rate of discharge from the pumps q, r, s, and the difference in rates is compensated for by recirculating emulsion from tank w through pipe x to the pump u and homogenizer v. The components of the emulsion may be mineral oil, water, and an emulsifying agent, which are supplied to the pumps q, r, s from cisterns c1 in which constant heads are maintained. The pumps q, r, s are driven from a common motor t controlled by a float y in the storage tank, and one or more of the pumps may have a variale delivery device.
