Abstract

A polymeric cement is made by mixing (1) a prepolymer prepared from methylene bis-(4-phenylisocyanate) and castor oil in nonstoichiometric proportions and having a viscosity of 5000-100,000 centiposes at 80 DEG F., with (2) sufficient methylene bis-(4-phenyl isocyanate) or castor oil or another prepolymer prepared from methylene bis-(4-phenyl isocyanate) and castor oil in order to make up the balance of the stoichiometric proportions. Inert fillers, e.g. aluminium pigments, silica or talc, may be added. The mixture is applied to the surfaces to be joined (e.g. the side seams of a can) and is subsequently cured by heating to 70-400 DEG F.
