Abstract

Hydrazine salts of phosphorus acids and of partial esters of phosphorus acids are used for deaerating boiler feed water. Salts specified are monohydrazine metaphosphate, monohydrazine dihypophosphite, tetrahydrazine pyrophosphate, dihydrazine pyrophosphate, monohydrazine orthophosphate, monohydrazine orthophosphite, dihydrazine orthophosphite and hydrazine methyl, isopropyl and butyl orthophosphate, the first four of which are alleged to be novel. The salts may generally be prepared by interacting hydrazine or hydrazine hydrate with a phosphorus acid in the presence of an organic solvent medium, for example methanol or ethanol. Monohydrazine metaphosphate may be prepared by dehydrating monohydrazine orthophosphate, for example by heating to 160-170 DEG C. under a pressure of 10 in. of Hg for 8 hours.ALSO:Dissolved oxygen is removed from boiler feed water by adding thereto, preferably after deaeration, a hydrazine salt of a phosphorus acid or of an organic partial ester of a phosphorus acid. An excess of 150-200 per cent of hydrazine salt is preferably employed. Salts specified are monohydrazine metaphosphate, monohydrazine dihypophosphite, tetrahydrazine pyrophosphate dihydrazine pyrophosphate, monohydrazine orthophosphate, monohydrazine orthophosphite, dihydrazine orthophosphite and hydrazine methyl, isopropyl and butyl orthophosphate.
