Abstract

762,411. Endless push-plate or scraper conveyers. DALGLISH, J. March 11, 1955 [June 8, 1954], No. 16780/54. Class 78 (1). In a push-plate or scraper conveyer having its conveying element composed of sections, each section including a push plate or scraper and one or more connecting members, and travelling in a conduit or channel, successive sections are connected to one another by universal joints having part-spherical bearing surfaces. In one form, Fig. 2, a circular push-plate 19 having a tyre 20 has a bearing member 27 lubricated by a nipple 30 or alternatively made of self-lubricating material. This member has a part-spherical inner surface which co-operates with a corresponding surface of a cup-shaped head 28 formed on one end of a connecting rod 12 the other end 25 of which has been passed through the bearing member whereby a threaded end portion 22 may be screwed into a plug 21 which has been screwed into a previously assembled push-plate and connecting rod assembly. Beyond the threaded portion 22 a hemispherical boss engages. the inner partspherical surface of the head 28 of the previously assembled connecting rod to complete the joint. A taper pin 24 is passed through a hole drilled through the parts 19, 21 and 22 to lock them in position. The plug 21 acts as a driving abutment for engagement by bifurcated teeth 32 of a sprocket wheel (not shown) a plurality of which may be disposed along the conveyer path and which operate in slots in the conduit beyond the discharge point or points for the material conveyed. The sprocket teeth may be equipped with rollers or balls to reduce friction. Material is kept away from the joints by rubber seals 31. In a second form, Fig. 3, each pushplate 33 is assembled between a pair of connecting rods 35, 37, the latter having a ball 39 engaging a socket 40 in the former. A bearing member 41 having a part-spherical inner surface and made of self-lubricating material completes the joint and is protected by a flexible seal 42, the member and seal being held in place by a threaded ring 43 screwed on the socket 40 and locked by a nut 44. The rear face of the socket 40 form the driving face for the sprocket teeth which are shaped to avoid contact with the flights. A conduit for either form may be flexible and comprise an armoured base lined with rubber, the tyres on the push-plates being of steel.
