In order to prevent inadvertent release of a strap buckle of the kind provided with a transverse locking-bar 11 which is slidable within an aperture in a buckle frame, and around which a strap 14 is passed so that by pulling upon the free end of the strap the bar is brought towards a rigid portion of the frame with the free end of the strap gripped between them, a releasable spring clip 16 which can be engaged over the slidable buckle bar 11, and also over the part of the strap 14 looped around it, is connected to the side of the buckle frame towards which the bar is held by the strap tension, so that when engaged over the bar it increases the gripping effect of the bar. Fig. 4 shows a buckle of the kind described in Specification 601,327, provided with a hardened spring steel clip 16 hinged upon a slotted lug 28 on the rigid end of the buckle frame, the end 19 of the clip remote from the hinge hook 18 being embedded within the end of a flexible tag 27 of moulded plastic material such as polyvinyl chloride. The tag 27 extends substantially tangential to the clip and terminates in a transverse bar 29 which can be readily grasped to withdraw the clip from its operative position shown in Fig. 5. In a modification the tag consists of a strip of fabric impregnated with polyvinyl chloride or like material provided with a central longitudinal fold so that it can receive and enclose the whole length of the strip 16 with the exception of the hingeing hook, and also provide an extension the parts of which are pressed together to form the tag.
