A brassiere is provided with breast cups each formed from one or more sections of laminated sheet material comprising a medial layer of vulcanized sponge rubber and outer layers of fabric adhesively bonded together, the edges of the section or sections being joined by stitching which passes through both the fabric and rubber layers. The medial layer is preferably of latex foam and the outer fabric layers of cotton sheet ; additional fabric layers may also be provided. The cup may be formed from a circular piece of the laminated material having a sector removed and the edges sown together, or it may consist of a number of sections joined by stitching. The cups may be quilted, e.g., by spiral stitching, or alternatively the laminated material may be quilted by a multiple needle machine before the garment is made. The material is preferably so cut that the fabric along the upper outer edges of the breast cups and along the meeting edges of the sections is cut on the bias, but the fabric along the lower edges is not cut on the bias.
