Abstract

759,946. Electric heating elements. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 4, 1955 [March 9, 1954], No. 6758/54. Class 39(3). Each end of a heating element consisting of a helically wound resistance wire on an insulating rod member 1 has an axial bore containing a metal plug 4 formed integrally with a portion 5 reduced in diameter and threaded to receive a nut 6, Fig. 2. A U-shaped contact member 7 has taps 8, 9 to which the resistance wire is welded, and is secured on the end of the rod member 1 by a rivet 10 which also passes through member 1 and the plug 4. A bus-bar 3 is held between the contact member 7 and the nut 6. In a modification, a contact member before assembly, Fig. 5, consists of tabs 12, 13, a main slotted portion 14 and a tubular portion 11 which, to secure the contact member on the rod member, Fig. 4, is passed through the rod and plug, the flat portion 14 then being bent over the end of the rod 1 and the threaded plug portion 5 passing through the slot 15. The tabs are folded over and welded to the end of the resistance wire as before, the wire first passing through the portion 11.
