[Also in Group XXX] In a rolling-mill in which a continuous . strip is cut up into plates by shears, a roll table following the delivery table 3, Fig. 1, is divided into three sections 4a, 4b, 4c, the middle section 4b of which can be driven at the same speed as the first section 4a for shingling the plates or can be driven at a higher speed of the third section 4c for unshingling. In operation, the plates cut from one length of strip and deposited on the first two sections 4a, 4b from a raised delivery table are fed at high speed until the leading plate reaches the end of the conveyer. The sections 4b, 4c are then slowed down to feed the plates forward for unshingling by feed rolls 5 while the next batch of plates fed by rolls 2 is being shingled on the section 4a. The separated plates are fed on to edge rollers 13, Fig. 4, carried by supports 11, 12 which can be rocked to one side on arms 10 (not shown) to deposit the plates on to the grid 7 of a cooling bed 8. Chains or ropes (not shown) running over pulleys 14 carry the plates to the cooling bed.
