Abstract

Classes 110(3) and 122(3) [Also in Group XIII] A vapour generating plant supplying a multi-stage turbine includes a first combustion chamber 1 containing a superheater 12 and a second combustion chamber 2 containing a boiler 14. Air for combustion drawn through an intake 6 by a fan 7 is pre-heated by passing it through the cold passages 8 of a heat exchanger, the hot gasses 10 of which receive the exhaust from the last combustion chamber 2. Ducting 9 connects the heat exchanger passages 8 with the inlet to the first combustion chamber 1. The exhaust gases finally pass to a waste heat chimney 11. Steam from the boiler 14 passes through superheater 12 to the H.P. steam turbine 16 from which the exhaust is passed through a steam re-heater 13 in combustion chamber 1 and thence to the L.P. steam turbine 17 which is provided with a condenser 18. Condensate from the condenser 18 is forced by a pump 19 through bled steam heaters 20 and 21 and then by pumps 22, 23 through an economizer 15, disposed in combustion chamber 2, to boiler 14. Fig. 2 shows the application of the invention to a mercury and steam plant operating in a binary cycle. A mercury turbine 24 exhausts to a steam boiler 25 and the condensed mercury passes through a feed pump 22 to an economizer 27 and mercury boiler 28 disposed in the second combustion chamber 2. The mercury boiler 28 is connected in parallel with a mercury vapour superheater 29 disposed in combustion chamber 1, and the output is fed to the mercury turbine 24. Steam from the boiler 25 passes through a superheater 31 in the second combustion chamber 2 and thence to the steam turbine 17.
