Abstract
759,231. Magnetic structures. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 6, 1954 [Sept. 9, 1953], No. 25807/54. Class 38 (2) . A sintered permanent magnet having anisotropic magnetic properties, made by a process including the step of moulding finely-divided particles of suitable material, either dry or suspended in a liquid, in a magnetic field, is demagnetized before sintering, at least in part, whereby likelihood of damage due to the relatively fragile bodies colliding from mutual attraction is reduced. The demagnetization should preferably be carried out by reversing the premagnetizing current when the moulding pressure is at its maximum, and bringing the demagnetizing field to a value equal to the field strength of disappearance of magnetization ( I Ho) of the material. The material consists of non-cubic crystals of polyoxides of iron and one or more of Ba, Sr, Pb, part of which may be substituted by Ca, having a constitution represented by Me0,6Fe 2 0 3 , where Me represents Ba, Sr, Pb. A suitable material is that forming the subject-matter of Specification 708,127.
