Abstract

758,695. Positive clutches. FRANCISCI. J. DE. July 26, 1954, No. 21755/54. Class 80(2) [Also in Group V] A one-revolution clutch, incorporated in mechanism forming part of a pasteextrusion machine (see Group V), comprises a member 49 to which power is applied and a member 53 which receives and transmits the power when the clutch is engaged. The member 49 is freely rotatable on a shaft 44 and the member 53 is fixed to this shaft. A key 55 is rotatable in the wall of the member 53 and projects into a space 51 within the member 49, the projecting part being of segmental cross-section and engageable with splines 52 in the wall of the member 49, Fig. 8. The key 55 is rotated into the Fig 8 position, i.e. the clutch-engaging position, by the tension of a spring 58, Fig. 5. An arm 56 projects from the outer end of the key and when this arm is held back in opposition to the spring 58, against a stop 57 on the member 53, the clutch is disengaged. In operation the arm 56 is held back by a lever when the transmission of power is not required, the key 55 then being in the rotational position where the flat face of its segment is opposite the splines and the key is not therefore engaged. The lever is tripped by appropriate timing means to allow the key to be rotated to engage the clutch.
