Abstract

758,682. Handling road vehicles. GUNN, T. April 7, 1955 [Jan. 14, 1954], No. 1090/54. Class 78(4) A frame 10, 11 for receiving an automobile has wheels 15 so that it may be moved laterally by manual effort. As illustrated the frame is guided by brackets 12 within which its transverse members 11 slide and the frame is moved by cables 29, 30 secured to one of the longitudinals 10 of the frame and passing over pulleys 34, 31, 32, carried by a garage floor and wall, to a winding drum mounted on the garage wall and operated by a handle accessible from the driving seat of the automobile. The cables 29, 30 may run in a trench in the floor. In an alternative construction the wheels 15 are driven through gearing from a handle mounted on a pillar upstanding at one side of the frame. The longitudinals 10 may be of timber protected on the inside by steel plates which are extended upwardly to form guards 22 to prevent the automobile wheels running off the longitudinals. Alternatively the longitudinals 10 may comprise steel, aluminium or alloy troughs, and both the longitudinals 10 and the transverse members 11 may be adjustable in length. Ramps 17 may be secured rigidly to the longitudinals 10 or, as shown, may be biased about pivots on the longitudinals by springs 19 so that they engage the floor only when depressed by the wheels of the automobile.
