757,975. Making T-section duct members; stamping. BENDZ, Ltd., and ACKERMAN, S. Jan. 22, 1953 [May 23, 1952], No. 6068/55. Divided out of 757,888. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] A method of producing a T - section. duct member comprises plunging a hole in the wall of a length of duct to provide an outwardly projecting flange at the periphery of said hole, trimming at least one end portion of the duct to produce a rim which lies in a plane substantially perpendicular to the centre line of the duct, pressing said trimmed end portion locally to produce an internal circumferentiallyextending recess adapted to receive a sealing ring and securing a further length of duct to the projecting flange by welding, brazing or other suitable process. A straight pipe has a hole plunged at a position intermediate its ends and a further length of pipe is secured, e.g. by welding or brazing, to an outwardly-projecting flange around the hole. The end or both ends of the duct is (are) then trimmed off perpendicular to the axis of the pipe and the trimmed pipe is held by shaped clamping dies. A succession of punches, in co-operation with a shaped end of the dies, form an enlarged end 11 of the pipe and, by curling, a circumferential internal recess 12, Figs. 1, 2 and 3. A rubber sealing-ring of circular, elliptical or oval cross-section is inserted into the recess so as to project slightly therefrom to form a fluid-tight seal against the end of another pipe inserted in the enlarged end 11. The recess 12 may be of rectangular, V-shaped or part-circular cross-section. Specification 757,884, [Group XXVIII], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
