[Also in Group XXX] The link pins 2 of a conveyer chain 3 carrying overlapping troughed plates 1 are engaged on both forward and rearward faces by dogs 11, 12 pivoted on adjacent bushed link pins 7 of an endless driving chain T consisting of outer and inner pairs of straps 6, 8. Between each adjacent pair of dogs is a rigid member 10 supported on two adjacent pins 7 such that each of the latter pins is adjacent a pin to which a dog is pivoted. Guide links 13 connect each dog to the adjacent end of a member 10 whereby upon chain T passing around sprockets 4, 5 the dogs of each pair are drawn apart to avoid fouling other pins 2 of the conveyer chain. The upper run of chain T which engages the upper run of the conveyer chain is supported by a rigid guide while the lower run of the conveyer chain engaged by the lower run of chain T is supported by a freely running oval-link chain 23 engaging the bottoms of the inverted plates 1. Chain T is also made rigid in its straight stretches by extensions 24 of guide links 13 engaging the inner straps 8. Each sprocket 4, 5 consists of a pair of toothed discs spaced to engage the inner straps 8, the space between the discs accommodating the pivotal movement of the dogs 11, 12.
