Abstract

756,170. Windows. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Oct. 31, 1953, No. 30146/53. Class 20(3). [Also in Group VIII] A window rupturable under explosion pressure comprises two glass sheets 13, 14 bonded to opposite sides of a thermoplastic synthetic resin interlayer 12 that has edges 15 extending beyond the glass sheets constituting -flexible connections to the mount or frame 16 and that is cut along lines 25 into sections that can hinge about the edge portions 15. One or both of the glass sheets is cut or scored along lines coincident with the cuts in the interlayer. Each glass sheet may be cut along a different diagonal of the window. The cut segments of the glass plate and interlayer may be separated, leaving a gap which is filled with a strip of non-adhering material 26 such as polyvinyl chloride. The interlayer may be of polyvinyl acetal. The window may be repaired after rupture by moving the segments back into a common plane and securing between two washers drawn together by a nut and bolt at the intersection of the diagonals of the window.
