Abstract

756,021. Bobbins. HENLEY'S TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd., W. T. May 2, 1952 [May 4, 1951], No. 10566/51. Class 120 (3). A collapsible double-flanged bobbin for a coil former comprises a detachable flange having a radial groove in its inner side extending from the hollow barrel to the periphery of the flange and communicating with a longitudinal slot formed in and leading to the bore of the barrel. The bobbin shown comprises a flange 10 to which are adjustably secured tapered barrel-halves 12 and 13 between which are formed slots 14 having enlarged portions 23 one of which may register with a radial groove 24 in which lies a longitudinally slotted tubular member 25 detachably secured to the detachable flange 19. The bore of the barrel and apertures 11 and 20 of the flanges are shaped to receive a shaft of square-section, introduction of which expands spring fingers 17 so that their free out-turned ends 18 are received in counterbores as at 22 and the flange 19 thereby secured to the barrel. The free end of the material to be wound on the bobbin may be placed initially in a slot 14, up the length of the member 25, doubled back in this member, and around the barrel 12, 13 so that the free end is accessible from the outer end of the wound coil; alternatively, the end of the wound coil may be passed through the tube 25 and the bobbin-bore so as to emerge axially therefrom. The wound bobbin may be placed in a flexible cover, flaps of which may be gripped by spring clips, as at 28, or by radially slidable clamps, on one or both flanges.
